Super Bowl XLVI Pick

Playoff Record [ATS]: 7-3

Giants. Patriots. We know the teams and their history. Every sports outlet has thrown nearly every stat at us in an attempt to predict the outcome. And you know what? In the two weeks leading up to Super Bowl XLVI it seems like the masses are still split on a winner.

Meditation Monday

From Valet.
A recent study by the University of Miami studied the effects of meditation developed by the Mind Fitness Training Institute for the US Marines. The soldiers spent between 12 to 15 minutes a day engaged in mindfulness meditation—which, explained simply, is a focused concentration on the present. For example, sitting in a chair, eyes closed, focused on nothing but your breathing, and the feeling of the air coming in and out of your lungs.
The result? Researchers reported that the Marines who meditated scored better on mood and memory evaluations, They also found improved athletic ability, relief from anxiety and

Mylène Jampanoï :: Friday's Lady of Leisure

One of the redeeming qualities of Clint Eastwood's Hereafter (Matt Damon is a psychic struggling internally with whether or not to use his powers. Like Will Hunting said, "Sounds like a real hoot.") was Mylène Jampanoï, which is French for 'breasts in lingerie'. These photos are from the new Agent Provocateur catalog. It's an artsy lingerie label thats also showcased Kate Moss, Alice Dellal, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Dita Von Teese. In case your boss asks why these are on your computer.

Ron Paul :: Crazy One?

This is one speech. In 2002. If you only watch a minute, make sure it's from 4:00 on.

This kind of 'radical' thinking reminds me of something:

The people who think they are crazy enough to change the world, often do. The question remains whether or not are they changing it for the greater good.

Thanks to Jeff and Mike for the video. Tips/suggestions email TLS.

Life's a Vacation?

"I find it fascinating that most people plan their vacations with better care than they do their lives. Perhaps that is because escape is easier than change." -Jim Rohn

Think about that for a minute. Ok? Good. If you are still looking to take the the ultimate golf vacation, may I suggest saving up the funds for this floating golf course in the Maldives? Some of the details according to the press release:

Featuring 18 holes connected by underwater tunnels, the course will be made up of several islands floating in the Indian Ocean, which will contain two or three holes each. The floating islands will also be linked to a series of hotels by more underwater tunnels, which will overlook the golf course and surrounding coral reefs. The project also has an environmentally aware side - it will be powered by solar energy with sustainable desalination and water cooling techniques, and will work in co-operation with the Maldives' rising sea levels.
Wanna get away?

Small Town

Courtesy of Shreddy Times

*After completing this post, sources confirmed that free skier Sarah Burke had passed away January 19th as a result of a traumatic brain injury suffered January 11th while training for the X-Games in Park City, UT. Read more about how you can help donate to 'Believe in Sarah,' fund that's been established in her honor, by clicking here.

Back in November, I posted a story about Danny Toumarkine, a friend who lived down the street from me while living in New Hampshire. He was a great snowboarder that had suffered a traumatic brain injury while filming his first feature film out west. He is somebody who truly embodies the spirit of this blog; enjoy your time as much of the time as possible.

Upon first viewing, I found myself not only happy for Danny, but for the portrayal of his hometown, (North) Conway [NH]. It is a place I spent a lot of my childhood visiting, eventually moving there post-graduate from Miami in search of Winter, nature, and space.

Whether or not one has ever lived in a small town, hopefully at some point, they get to experience the

Friday Lady of Leisure :: Jennifer Missoni

[IMDB]: An Italian-born actress, a competitive equestrian and figure skater in her teens, well-traveled, graduating high-school in Switzerland, legs for days, looks good as blonde or brunette. I can't figure out why she's bounced around a bunch of cable TV series' and is now poised to make her big screen debut alongside tour-de-force Christian Slater. Weren't we just highlighting how shitty the entertainment biz is on Wednesday? For more pics click below:

NFL Divisional Championship Picks

All picks against the spread [ATS]
Last Week: 3-1
Overall: 5-3

Don't let Tebow know about our deal. Ps what size
Uggs you wear?
Ravens @ Patriots [-7.5]: A cab driver once told me, "your health is your wealth." The Patriots are mostly healthy for the first time all year. It showed last week. The offensive line kept Tom Brady virtually untouched against a good Broncos defense. Boomer Esiason summed up the subsequent performance:
"It was almost like they were pissed that they were playing against Tim Tebow, who got all the headlines going into the game. And it's about us making sure everybody remembers that we're still here. I don't necessarily really feel like that's their motivation, but that was something to behold. That was vintage Tom Brady in his finest hour. He probably played as well Saturday night, against a team that he should have played well against, as any game we've ever seen him play."
Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have always had high praise for both Ed Reed and Ray Lewis, because they know that no matter what their age and physical status, the knowledge they bring on defense is invaluable. Both Lewis and Reed know how to communicate with the guys around them. Nothing that the Patriots throw at them will surprise them because they

You Like the Internet? Protect IP/SOPA Will Stop That.

While the focus of this blog is to enjoy your time all the time, sometimes there are issues so important, they take precedence. This is one of the most important legal and governmental battles of the 21st century. I highlighted the video's basic points [w/ time code] below:

:40-1:05 What the government could control through this act/how corporations could control content, therefore infringing on consumer/small business' access to the internet's open marketplace.

1:20- How corporations could shut down small businesses, social media site, and creative websites.

1:55- The global impact this could have on the internet once countries follow the U.S.

Rum & Marley :: These are-ah 2 of my favorite things...

Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records, spread Reggae music around the world. Esquire's Taylor Adams briefly interviewed by [read in full here] about his new Jamaican Rum. Some of Mr. Blackwell's musings:

"All businesses, in a way, are pretty similar. You gotta have a good product, know you have it, and deal with people honorably."

On Jamica: "I love the country. It's really beautiful, and the people are extraordinary. They're very bright, have a great sense of humor, and they're very creative...Go out and meet the people. Go to a little bar, or go to a little restaurant, or travel around. This is counter to how a lot of the tourism had been in Jamaica. It had a bad reputation, but I think things are much better."

On Bob Marley: "I met him in 1972. By then, he'd become quite well-known in Jamaica, but he was considered a rebel and an impossible person to deal with or negotiate with. It was because he was, to use the title of one of his own songs, standing up for his rights, and it was a very corrupt business in Jamaica at that time. I just felt, when I saw him, that he could be a big star. I felt that he really just had it. And I took a risk. I bounced him money without a contract, because I felt like the best way to show I could be trusted was to trust him."

Can't wait to try a bottle and crank up some "Easy Skankin" :)

Nike Dunk High 08

I think most basketball shoes are fuckin' ugly. Furthermore, if you're over 25, I can't understand buying sneakers to display them (or who you are displaying them for?). That said, I saw these Nike Dunk High 08's over the weekend and thought they looked cool. The colorway is simple and the fleece/tweed is awesome for winter. I haven't worn high tops this century, but if were going to, I might start with these.

I'd take these new Marc McNairy's, hand-stitched with a blue sole, I only wish he'd kept the Fuck Off on the bottom instead of the happy face. Still very dapper.

Friday Lady of Leisure :: Katrina Bowden

The 23 year-old actress stars on 30-Rock. Another reason why there should be more sitcoms on television instead of reality shows.

NFL Divisional Round Picks

Like last week, all picks are against the spread.

Last Week: 2-2

Will Jim show his 'boyish
exuberance' again?
Saints @ 49ers [+3.5]: Last week, Drew Brees used the opportunities the Lions gave him for the win and the cover (-11). However, the Lions offense had the ball twice under four minutes and could've covered with a late TD. Pierre Thomas was the big surprise for the Saints offense last week. He, along with Chris Ivory, and more importantly Darren Sproles,

Allen Stone :: Best New Artist of 2012?

So I was reading Esquire's 2012 Best New Artists and there was some refreshing talent on the list. It seems like 2012 could get us back into the Amy Winehouse/Neo-Soul movement, which isn't a bad thing (sans drug overdose). When I came upon the slide for Allen Stone and his song, "Unaware" all it said underneath was, "Because the key to blue-eyed soul is a ridiculously high falsetto".  A white kid, with coke-bottle glasses and a 90's grunge outfit, layering that voice over the swaying of bass and keys is like listening to D'Angelo and Timberlake meeting Jason Mraz and Marvin Gaye. I hope, for your sake, you can crank it up at the 3:40-mark. That bridge is why people get into music.

Tie Your Scarf like a Boss

It's getting beginning to look a lot like...Winter. With each new season comes the opportunity to separate yourself and find some swagger. Here are 21 new ways to tie that scarf you got for christmas. You're welcome. #theleisurestudy

Who cares what language it's in, we could all learn a stylistic lesson from Europeans. Lesson 2 is wear the biggest scarf you can to cover the gold-printed long sleeve you're wearing :)
