One of my favorite Irish Pubs. "Lillie's" @ 13 East 17th St, Manhattan www.lilliesnyc.com |
I've been having conversations recently with patrons regarding drinking by oneself. Then I read a great blog post by Joe over at Dappered that addressed the topic and had to give my take.
- You're not looking to get drunk aka "win the party" aka drinking until you can't feel feelings.
- You're unwinding at a familiar spot
- You have a familiar spot, which also means you have to establish a report somewhere. Keeping it classy means doing your due diligence on the mature drinking circuit. No one said this would be easy.
- Try to keep the cell use to a minimum, take in the atmosphere aka "Drink it all in" (hopefully it goes down smooth)
- *Don't talk the Bartender's ear off* (unless they engage you).
- Order a drink that you can take your time to enjoy. Think of it as a better-tasting version of mediation.
- If you're the existential type, take a pen & paper
This a great way to unwind after work while everyone else at the gym. Don't worry about them, Working-Out is just a trend. Depending on your personality, this can be also be executed before meeting someone significant. If they aren't cool with it though, you might want to question a few things....
P.s. Don't ever quote/whistle/or think of this song
P.p.s. If you dress like this, alcoholism isn't your only problem:
